The Phoenix Hotel is long known for it’s a quirky contribution to rock & roll history. In 1987, Chip Conley gave the ailing Caravan Lodge a brand new life in 1987. With a classic 1950’s structure including courtyard swimming pool- the Caravan rose from the ashes as Phoenix Hotel. Phoenix reportedly became a favorite spot of traveling musicians- among them David Bowie, Nirvana and Neil Young.
In the decades following, The Pool at The Phoenix- always warmed to a cozy 85 degrees- has been a hip downtown gathering spot for special events and weekend pool parties in the heart of downtown San Francisco. With a cool modern update in 2018, the Phoenix is ready to resume the fun post-pandemic.
